At Divorce-Women: Understanding the Management and Process of divorce, the focus is on helping women to understand the divorce process and how you should prepare for your initial meeting with your attorney. It's also to help you with the after divorce period where you are facing child care, or alimony, or loneliness, and maybe living on your own for the first time. While legal advice can only be provided by your attorney, my focus is to guide you and answer your questions.
Women usually start thinking about divorce 3 to 5 years before they hire a attorney. There are so many questions and Divorce -Women works with you to suggest first steps in your decision making and creating a list of topics to discuss with your attorney.
If your husband has served you with a Petition for Dissolution of Marriage (Divorce) you should contact a family law attorney as there are specific timelines for your required reply. Still, Divorce-Women can work with you prior to that first meeting with your attorney as well as through the entire process: before, during and after.

Karen Guthrie is an experienced family law attorney licensed in Maryland but not in the State of Florida. Karen's role is to assist you in understanding the divorce process as it impacts women. To make you more knowledgeable from the beginning through your after divorce life so that you know the steps to take and the questions to ask. You have power and I'll help you discover it. Once you have decided to divorce, or have received a Petition for Dissolution (Divorce), you should seek legal counsel to protect your rights. Karen will not provide you with legal services as those must be obtained from a Florida Family Law Attorney.

Will you be my attorney

No, I am not licensed to be your attorney in Florida. My role is to help you understand the divorce process and the steps you should consider in preparing for divorce. What should you consider concerning finances and children and what documents are essential.

Can I still work with my attorney

Absolutely! While the service is not legal representation (or therapy), it is intended to answer general questions about the divorce process and how you should prepare for your divorce. Legal representation is expensive and my consultation will help you hone in on the questions your should be asking your attorney. We will work together to make you familiar with the divorce process and preparation so that you work effectively with your attorney or if you decide to file on your own. Rather than spending between $400-$700 for that first attorney hour, you'll pay only $195 for a personal divorce process consultation with an experienced divorce counselor. There are situations that are unique to women and this is a safe space to ask your questions.
